Founded in 1991 as Pfeufer Richardson Architects, PRA Architects is a full-service architectural firm with a commitment to improving the built environment through responsive design and sustainability in construction.
Our diverse client base includes state and local government agencies, schools, colleges, private institutions, commercial developers, construction management firms, non-profit organizations, and private individuals. We have been recognized for capitalizing on the unique design opportunities present in every project and are regularly rewarded with recurring commissions from our clients.
In addition to architectural design, we have significant experience in the preparation of master plans and feasibility studies, historic preservation, adaptive reuse and code and zoning review.
Now in our third decade, PRA’s talented staff has established a record of design that consistently exceeds client expectations and reliably delivers projects on time and on budget.
Ethos
We define our approach to architecture as the complex process of analyzing problems and synthesizing solutions for the betterment of the built environment and its occupants. PRA has ongoing projects that represent the full spectrum of scale, program, budget, construction and client type. In each case, our goal is to satisfy the particular needs of our clients and improve their experiences and communities. Each project requires its own unique balance of desires, needs, limitations and possibilities and PRA is a hands-on leader of the process from pre-design and programming through bidding and construction.
Our approach to our work is informed first and foremost by our significant technical expertise in building construction, systems and components, and by our understanding of the vital importance of schedules and budgets. In addition, our project delivery process emphasizes creative collaboration to identify hidden potentials within each project.
We have consistently succeeded in our approach as evidenced by our repeated delivery of creative and cost effective solutions. With value added through design, we have completed a varied range of project types and requirements within challenging time constraints and budgets.
We believe that our greatest strength lies in our commitment to understanding what our clients need to accomplish, and working with them to identify opportunities and arrive at solutions that are functional, creative and enriching.
Sustainability
PRA is committed to the principles and practice of sustainable design and construction and is an active participant in the USGBC’s LEED® program for certifiably sustainable architecture. As our ongoing work spans throughout the Massachusetts State College and University system, we have particular expertise in the Massachusetts LEED Plus standards as required by Executive Order No. 484.
As of 2006 all state buildings must meet minimum efficiency, sustainable design and construction standards, unique to Massachusetts, which exceed the USGBC’s basic LEED requirements with respect to energy efficiency, natural resource consumption, site development and mandatory Smart Growth criteria.
PRA’s LEED Accredited Professionals work closely with our consultants and clients to ensure a successful and efficient LEED process.
