STCC Media Services Relocation

Media Services Relocation

Springfield Technical Community College

Springfield, MA

PRA recently completed a relocation of STCC’s Communications Media program across campus, which involved the conversion of approximately 5,500 SF of existing classroom and laboratory space into modern video-production and sound-recording studios and editing spaces. Adjoining the studios, PRA designed state-of-the-art control rooms to enhance production and editing capabilities, along with high-tech classrooms to meet the needs of the department’s current and future curriculum. The project also involved upgrades to local mechanical, electrical and audio-visual systems, intricate sound-isolating ceiling and wall assemblies, sound-control doors and windows, and sound-absorptive wall and ceiling treatments. A custom sound-isolated ceiling-hung pipe grid was added to the new main studio space to support future flexibility of performance lighting fixtures and video-capture equipment.

PRA worked hand-in-hand with numerous specialized consultants as well as the College’s IT and Media Department staff to coordinate and implement a range of sensitive and intricate installations to ensure the final product met the users’ expectations for functionality and performance. We are pleased to have been able to shepherd this project to completion and provide the School with a modernized media production learning environment to serve students for decades to come.
